WILL COUNTY CHIEF EXECUTIVE
In the Executive Form of County Government, the Executive is elected at large every four years. The Executive is not part of the county board but has the power to veto ordinances passed by the board, much like the President may veto laws passed by Congress, which the county board can override only by a three-fifths majority. The Chief Executive Officer also coordinates the administration of the county government by proposing an annual budget and appointing a cabinet with the advice and consent of the county board as well as presiding at county board meetings where he/she possesses the power to break ties.
In the County Executive Form of government, duties of the County Board Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer are divided to prevent abuses of power.
There are a number of Departments that report directly to the County Executive:
- Animal Control
- Board of Review
- Building Maintenance
- Communications
- Community Development
- Emergency Management
- Finance
- Geographic Information System (GIS)
- Grant Administration
- Highway
- Human Resources
- Information, Communication & Technology (ICT)
- Land Use
- Microfilm/Copy
- Parking
- Purchasing
- Sunny Hill Nursing Home
- Supervisor of assessments
- Workforce Investment Board Manager
In addition to the duties listed above, a Chief Executive Officer should coordinate regional economic development with municipalities within the County and act as a representative for the County.
